Back@Home, a new $12 million initiative from the NC Department of Health and Human Services and supported by state, local and nonprofit agencies, will transition families from Hurricane Florence disaster shelters or unsafe housing to safe and sustainable, longer-term housing. Back@Home team members have been traveling to areas impacted by Florence to quickly help families and individuals secure stable housing and other resources.

Modeled after an innovative program implemented in Texas after last year’s Hurricane Harvey, Back@Home assists North Carolinians not eligible for assistance through the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) or who may be receiving limited FEMA assistance and still need help. Services include help housing location, rent and utility assistance, move-in supplies, and, if needed, help accessing other resources such as job training and placement and child care.
